Sleep is essential to children’s health. On average, experts agree that children between the ages of 4-7 years should be getting 11-12 hours sleep a night. It is important to note that children do not need any extra stimulation at bedtime so using any form of ‘tech’ is certainly not recommended!
A bedtime story is a traditional part of the going to bed routine, but many stories, despite being wonderful tales, actually stimulate their listeners at a time when they should be calm, relaxed and sleepy. This is why our stories are gentle, dreamy, fantasies that are non-stimulating in the adventurous sense but use the power of children’s imagination to relax them.
The stories utilise gentle sound effects and charming music for a therapeutic effect. The theme music has been specially written by award winning, Oscar nominated composer and musician, Lester Barnes, who has composed music for such children’s television series as Horrid Henry, The Roly Mo Show, Fimbles and Footy Pups plus many more well known film and television productions.
Parents, counsellors, doctors, sleep therapists and childcare workers confirm that such stories can greatly help at a child’s bedtime – often a stressful time for parents …….incidentally, Time To Sleep Stories can also help adults who find their ‘inner child’ whilst listening to these gentle tales!
Time To Sleep Stories are written by Mark Jones who has a wealth of experience having been involved in the creative worlds of television, music and advertising since the 1980s. He also has a wealth of experience having studied human behaviour in-depth for over 20 years including downshifting, simple living, hypnotherapy, stress reduction and many self-improvement techniques. His involvement in these disciplines led him to discover that a big cause of stress in parents was in getting their children to settle down at bedtime. He applied his story telling ability to the problem and Time To Sleep Stories was created.
By listening to a Time To Sleep Story at bedtime children can enjoy a dreamy walk through the Whispering Wood, travel on the Wood Gomes’ underground train, sail down the bubbling river with Squizzer Squirrel and his fiends, meet Hootie the Owl, soar through the mountains on the back of Sizzle the Dagon, take a ride in Professor Poppleton’s Airship and much, much more ……. all designed to enthral young minds whilst at the same time taking them on a magical, relaxing and calming journey off to the Land of Nod.
